The Myth of the Home Sauna Cost: Barrier to Your Private Detox Spa

The Myth of the Home Sauna Cost: Barrier to Your Private Detox Spa

Posted by

Many people have read online how many Hollywood celebrities are gushing over the new fad in fitness today: the infrared sauna! From Kanye West building Kim Kardashian a  detox spa with  an infrared sauna, to Gwyneth Paltrow whose lifestyle is dedicated to healthy living, celebrities have the “hots” (pun intended) for the home sauna. But is the home sauna cost keeping this new healthy way of living away from the reach of the common people? Is the home sauna a luxury item or a healthy necessity?

Home Sauna Cost: The Truth behind the Myth

Read on and find out what it takes to purchase your private detox sauna and debunk the myth that saunas are only for the rich and famous.

  1. Purchase price

As the name suggests, this is the primary cost to own an infrared sauna unit. This will vary depending on several factors such as the brand, size, quality of construction, energy rating, materials used, and sometimes if it is brand new or pre-loved. However, you should have an idea of the range of prices so that you know what to expect.

First identify the size that you  need. Then from there, research from the most popular brands until you find one whose price you're comfortable with. Infrared sauna prices usually range from USD 1,500 for a simple 2-person model, to USD 15,000 for a 6-person with all the bells and whistles. Just a quick reminder, there are two kinds of infrared saunas: near and far infrared saunas, with the former usually less expensive than the latter.

  1. Extras

What are you using your infrared sauna for? How dedicated are you to living healthily through it? Most infrared saunas are usable  without the optional accessories, meaning  you can enter it, get the benefits of infrared heating, and ultimately be satisfied. But for an enhanced sauna experience, you should be prepared to shell out a couple hundreds of dollars more.

Make sure that you take into consideration all your five senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste, and ensure that you incorporate them into a holistic experience. Some of the more common accessories include:

  • sound system
  • air purifier/ionizer
  • aromatherapy
  • color light panels
  • custom interiors, door, and upholstery
  1. Installation

The cost to install heavily depends on the size and type of the unit if it comes with its power source or needs to be plugged into your home’s system. Ultimately, this depends on you. Most suppliers have people who will do the installation for you, and depending on the area, they might cost at least USD 1,000. However, if you have the muscle and extra help to install the unit yourself, then you can save a bit. Just make sure you know what you’re doing or else the cash that you saved will end up going to repairs.

  1. Operation cost

For starters, infrared saunas are way cheaper than their traditional wood or electrically powered counterparts. The electric cost will depend on your area and on how often you use the unit.

Infrared saunas have shorter preparation time (usually less than half an hour), and you use it for a lesser time. Because of this, you’ll be getting the same benefits as with traditional saunas (in some cases even better) a lot more cheaply! Just check with the manufacturer and your power supplier to estimate the cost of operation.
